Cuvée Prestige - Canon Fronsac - Rouge
6ha85a19ca
Limestone-clay plateau with southern exposure
60% Cabernet-Franc, 40% Merlot
8400 to 13200 bottles
The quality of the terroir, the choice of farming methods and of the date for the harvest, the rigorous selection of the grapes before they are placed in the storehouse, the technique of the wine-making process, the choice of vats, and the blend of different Varieties—these are only some of the factors which determine the difference when producing excellent and exceptional vintages.
Traditional methods are used in both the wine-making and the maturation, as are the latest advances in modern oenology.
Every year, new oak casks are bought specifically for each wine, which means that the Cuvée Prestige can be placed in casks for 12 months.
Bottling then takes place on the estate..
This is one of the signature wines for an appellation which emerged from near-anonymity in the early 1980s: Canon-Fronsac. Close to Pomerol, which once enjoyed a greater reputation, the wines of Canon-Fronsac have been making a promising comeback, with careful vinification and wines that are certainly more elegant than they used to be. Nowadays Château Belloy offers complex, well-structured wines, full of good potential for laying down, and at a very attractive price.

Guide Hachette :
This wine does what it can with the difficulties of the vintage year: to the nose it expresses sous-bois and smoke, while in the mouth the structure is dominated by ripe, good quality tannins, but lacking somewhat in complexity in the finish..
Guide Hachette : 1 star
Very ancient vines (fifty years old) of Merlot and Cabernet Franc planted in soil of chalk, clay and quartz, are at the origin of this deep garnet wine with pleasant aromas of small berries, smoke, spice, and menthol. The tannins are fruity, fairly potent and balanced at the end of the tasting.
Guide Hachette : 2 stars
This 2003 vintage has a brilliant colour, intense garnet with glints of ruby; the nose starts with elegant aromas: woody, dried flowers, and intense, well-ripened fruitiness. The tannins are very presents, in an ample palate, smooth first impression before a finish accented by dried oak.
Its fruity character means it is already pleasantly accessible for tasting.
Médaille d'Or Concours de Bordeaux - Vins d'Aquitaine 2008.
Robert Parker’s rating in The Wine Advocate: (85-86)
For the 2005 vintage, this is an indispensable wine that belongs in the cellar of every serious wine-lover. The vintage is developing towards perfect balance and complexity…
The superb, deep robe has nuances of richly-coloured ruby, with violet hues.
To the nose, it is the finesse that comes across before anything else. Very quickly the aromatic complexity follows with aromas of candied red fruits, strawberry, cherry, plum, fruits in liqueur, blackberry, wild strawberry, notes of violet, smoked, toasted aromas, mild tobacco, spices, cinnamon, pepper, vanilla and cocoa. Aeration yields the remarkable contrast between the maturity of the palette of fruit and the menthol freshness. The nose alone is enough to make one succumb.
In the mouth, the finesse is still present, backed by the elegant structure melting into the fruity sweetness of the first impression. Very fine, silky tannins take over to give the wine a good length. Balanced overall but also harmonious.
